Adaptation- The act or action of adopting to a new situation or circumstance. Eg. Learning to live with being harassed everyday. Defame- To damage the reputation, character, or good name of by slander or libel. Eg. Defamation of character. Degrade-To lower in dignity; dishonor or disgrace: a scandal that degraded the participants. To lower in moral or intellectual character; debase. To reduce in worth or value: degrade a currency. Dehumanize- To deprive of human qualities such as individuality, compassion, or civility: slaves who had been dehumanized by their abysmal conditions. Detachment- Also call tuning out. You emotionally and psychologically separate yourself from the situation that is happening to you to try to numb the pain of your circumstances. Devalue- To be not appreciated. To be made to feel less than what you are worth. Energy Vampires- People or situations that have leave a drain on your physical, emotional or psychological being. You literally do not function at a hundred percent around these people or places because they are taking your energy. Hyper-awareness- It's enhanced awareness of everything and everyone around you. Your senses become heightened. You might also experience a sense of time changes to a very enhanced or keen degree. Hypersensitivity- Because you have been harassed, simple acts, remarks or actions that you previously were not sensitive to, might make you feel threatened, upset or just uncomfortable, even when you understand that they are not meant to make you feel that way. You gain a unnatural sensitivity to these sitmuli. A pavlovian response is generated. Hyper-vigilance- Often mistaken for paranoia. This happens when you have been exposed to harassment for long periods of time. It's like you are always on your guard waiting for the next attack. This state can be mistaken for paranoia, but it's not. Some people however will use it to make you think you are paranoid. Isolation-A feeling of being on your own, separated from everything and everyone else. Being harassed makes you turn inwards and you start to not only feel, but start to become separated from the world around you. Lethargy-A state of sluggishness, inactivity, and apathy. Minimizing- To reduce to the smallest possible amount, extent, size, or degree Narcissism- Excessive love or admiration of oneself. Pathological Narcissism- A psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy, and unconscious deficits in self-esteem. PTSD-(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) An anxiety disorder associated with serious traumatic events and characterized by such symptoms as guilt, trauma, flashbacks, violent outbursts, nightmares, numbness, distorted reality, etc. Scapegoating- One that is made to bear the blame of others. In harassment this can also be called victim blaming. The harasser tries to blame the target for what happened. They take no responsiblity for the actions that they set into place and try to blame someone, or something else for everything that's happened. Sheeple- People that follow and do whatever they are told to. They do not take the time to think on their own. They are sheep following and doing what the herd does. It's a good way to blend in, but it's a mindless way to live. Targets-An object of criticism or attack. In harassment this is the preferred word to describe individuals who are pinpointed for harassment or bullying behaviors. Validation- Ascertain the truth, authenticity of something. Proving something to be true. In harassment this is a need to be believed and to have confirmation that what happened to you was wrong. |
